Labour of Love
What a beautiful quilt - lovely needleturn applique and embroidery on fine magnolia coloured cotton, by RosaLeen. Sometimes frustrating perhaps, but a wonderful result.
WPQ Bag for Regional Get Together
At this year's Regional Get Together, each Group was asked to make a bag to be auctioned for local Alzheimer's Support.
Our bag was made by many members in an in-house workshop conducted by Elly. The bag is made of a folded circle similar to a cathedral window, in a luxurious black and gold oriental print.

Thursday 11 July - Sew and Tell
What a treat to enjoy a warm get together this morning.......The recycled air conditioning is up and running! Once again, we thank those responsible for applying to the state government for the grant to cover the installation......hip hip hooray.
On to sew and tell.........
We were pleased to welcome Erika to the Thursday get together and hope that as she has more free time she'll join us on a regular basis. Erika is getting ready for her trip to Bourke, taking all the crib quilts made by the WPQ and reminded us to have them in by next week.
For all those attending the Zone Gathering at Panthers on 17th July, don't forget to allow a little extra time to sign in...........9a.m. is the official start time...........ENJOY.
On to sew and tell.........

Crib Quilts for Bourke Hospital
The Group has been making crib quilts for Bourke Hospital for some time. Our next delivery is going up in early August. Last week we had a crèche full of crib quilts bought in by Members and 4 sent in by Retallacks from their new overlocking class.
The Retallacks quilts
...and made by Gwynne
- proudly displayed by Susie - her first crib quilt and done as quilt as you go string piecing,
and finally, with Sheryl hiding behind one of hers!
The indefatigable Bev (trying to hide behind the quilts) displayed 2 quilts she has machine pieced and quilted. Lovely waratahs and a purple jelly roll design.
and last but not least Doris has made 2 fabric books with a Christmas theme (her assistant for Sew and Tell is Rachel)

Black and White Winner from WPQ
Running a bit late with the news. Whoops!
Here is Bronwyn and her quilt which received a 3rd prize at the NSW Quilt Show. The quilt is a variation of a pattern taught by Chris Timmins, and will be on a road show for the next few months. Congratulations to Bronwyn from the Wauchope Group

Thursday 27th June - Sew and Tell
We've enjoyed some glorious winter sunshine in Wauchope, however the low that hit a large chunk of the east coast found us too mid week! Damp weather didn't keep the girls away on Thursday though with Elly holding an inhouse workshop.
This lovely bag was much admired during a 'sew and tell' some weeks back, so Elly agreed to share the technique.
July 17th is the Zone gathering at Panthers, Port Macquarie.
With a Challenge to all the groups attending to make a BAG to raffle for Alzheimers, Elly suggested the girls each make a block. When the blocks were completed she would construct the bag on behalf of the group...... Thanks Elly :)
All heads down, stitching their blocks .........
Learning a new technique and helping a good cause

We had one 'sew and tell' item this week with Denise sharing her pieced top. Isn't that owl the cutest thing?
I'm thinking this quilt is going to be much loved by a grandchild....maybe!
Have a good week end everyone.........

Thursday 13th - Sew and Tell
Julie from Wauchope Pre school is presented with a quilt and cushion made by Elly on behalf of the group. The Pre school will be holding an event on Friday with the quilt helping to raise some extra funds.

A beautiful morning tea was enjoyed by all to farewell Faye. A move to be closer to family means she is leaving the area. A long time member of the group Faye could always be relied on to add style and flair to group events.
We will all miss you Faye, but wish you the very best in your new home.

Time to share what everyone has been up to this week.
Adrienne started the ball rolling.....sorry I couldn't resist that
Yes really.......this ball was once a T-Shirt! Watch this space, it's rumoured to become a rug!!
Rhonda shared two pretty crib quilts to add to those going out to the Bourke Base Hospital.

Some of the members are off to Sydney this week end for the Quilt Show. Safe journey ladies we look forward to hearing all about it next week............

Tuesday Night Girls
11 June 2013, and all is well....
The girls at our Tuesday night group are all very busy
They had a number of things to show, including this Anne Sommerlad quilt made by Margaret - the picture doesn't do the subtle greens and blues justice. Anne is coming to Wauchope in October to do a weekend workshop.
Some of the Members did a workshop at Nundle a few weekends ago with Kerry Swain at The Cottage on the Hill. Barbara completed this warm flannel quilt at the Retreat - and she has called it "50 Shades of Grey"
The pictures of the Happy Hour at the Retreat had to be censored - too much of a good time.

Today we delivered 8 quilts to Wauchope Palliative Care and 10 quilts of various sizes to the RFS Chaplaincy Service. Our Member Ruth is connected with RFS Chaplains who give these quilts to RFS members who have lost their own homes while saving other people's.
Here is Ruth taking delivery of the quilts and some of the people who made them.
As well as making quilts, many Members are wonderful Bag Ladies as well. Here is Doris with her latest Black and White Bag, ably assisted by Denise!
