STOLEN QUILTS, UPDATE AND DONATIONS

Stolen Quilts Update

(photos of more donated quilts and tops appear under 'Some of our Masterpieces)

We have received a quilt from Jayne, a quilter in Canberra whose husband comes from Port Macquarie, who was the first person to contact us after we posted our initial message about stolen quilts - thank you Jayne. Thank you to everyone who shared our post, commented, offered moral support and to those people and groups who have sent us fabric, quilt tops, offered sewing machines (2 were accepted) and completed quilts to aid in the replacement of the quilts that were stolen. A very special thank you to 'The Carpetbaggers' - Floor Covering retailers on the mid north coast of NSW who made a very generous monetary donation from funds raised at their Charity Golf Day a few weeks ago. The Carpetbaggers also have made generous donations to 'Sailability' and 'Sea Rescue'. As yet there has not been any sightings of the quilts, the sewing machine, the laminator, the table top magnifying light nor obviously the money box with donations for an orphanage home/school in Bali. Our members have been overwhelmed by the support shown by thousands of people over this theft and their faith in humanity has certainly been restored. We have attempted to acknowledge or comment on all posts, however if we have missed a few, our apologies. Again, thank you everyone for your support.

Robbery and quilts stolen 28/29 September 2019

There was a robbery at the Rotary Youth Hall in Wauchope last Saturday night/Sunday morning  (28th/29th September 2019) when the locked storeroom of the Wauchope Patchwork Quilters (WPQ) was broken into and along with other equipment, 15 QUILTS were stolen. These quilts had been made by members of WPQ for the Palliative Care Ward of the Wauchope Hospital where every patient has a quilt placed on their bed to help make their last few days a little more homely. If you hear of anyone having recently received or been offered a quilt, or see them being sold at Markets etc, please advise Port Police on 65830199 or WPQ on 0418 218 784. Also, one of our members, who was unable to carry her Janome sewing machine to quilting each week due to recent shoulder surgery left her machine in the storeroom and it was also stolen.......and WPQ members had been slipping the odd coin or note in a money box to help support an under-privileged residential school in the back blocks of Bali - this was also stolen! Someone has to know something - you can't dispose of 15 quilts without it being seen. The quilts in the photos are not the exact same quilts that were stolen but the missing quilts would be very similar - brightly coloured, mainly geometric, approximately 60" x 68"  (150cm x 170cm).

  1. I will keep a lookout for you. I love quilts. I hope you find whoever stole them and hopefully get them returned. Its the sentimentality of them and the hours of work put into them that can never be replaced.

I actually have a quilt that I really haven't used. I would be more than happy to donate to you so you could pass on to someone else who actually needs it.

Please let me know if you would like it.

    Thanks and Good luck.
