GROUP PROFILE

Wauchope Patchwork Quilters.

In 1995 Robin Gartner, who at the time was a teacher at  Wauchope Public School, organised the first meeting for the group.  There were, and still are, two meetings a week during school terms. One  held on a Tuesday evening  and the second on Thursday morning (see below). The first recorded minutes show that each group started with 7 - 8 members.  By the end of that year there were over 25 who sold raffle tickets for  the initial Christmas quilt.

The group holds Biennial Quilt shows with the first  held in an empty shop in town. We now follow the Wauchope Country Show and fill the pavilion at the Wauchope Show Ground with quilts, wall hangings, cushions, bags etc.  We raffle two quilts at each show, one made by each of the day and night groups with the proceeds going to that year's pre-arranged charities.

Over the years the group has grown and we now have a membership of just over 60 strong.  A typical meeting would be full of chatter, the sharing of projects, techniques, ideas and help. We support many charities by donating quilts for use, or to raffle for fund raising.  Droughts, fires and floods have seen the Wauchope members, like those of many other groups, produce quilts for the people in affected areas.

Our groups meet  on:

Tuesday  from 5.30pm to 9pm.
Thursday   from 9am to 1pm.
at:
The Rotary Youth Hall
Oxley Lane (opposite Bain Park)
